The Insider on the launch of MP Joseph’s, ‘ My Driver Tulong and Other Tall Tales from Contemporary Cambodia’ unveiled in the Capital
My Driver Tulong and Other Tall Tales from a Post Pol Pot Contemporary Cambodia M P Jospeh, was launched in the presence of Mr. Shashi Tharoor as the guest of honour, Hon. Justice Mr. Kurian Joseph and Prof. K. V. Thomas M.P.
The book un-intrusively brings out Cambodia as the global tourist hot-spot that it is today, portraying not only Angkor Wat – the largest Hindu Temple in the world, built a thousand years ago – where, on its never-ending walls you can read picture-stories from the Mahabharata and the Ramayana as though you were reading from a mythological graphic, but is also as a land in whose people guilt and innocence reside artlessly side by side!
The author shared his views with us, “Cambodia is a fascinating country, and I fell in love with it at first sight. ‘My Driver Tulong’ tries to capture that love, the land and its people in a fictional travelogue.” The book also looks at the successes of the UN and International Aid Agencies in Cambodia, and its ways there. Cambodia is a country where billions of dollars have been pumped into as aid and is a rare symbol of the success of the UN and Aid Agencies. It is one of the few countries in the world where the UN has successfully hand-held a country from extreme excesses into ‘democracy’.
