Giving and receiving  compliments is not just a socio-linguistic grace but also a communication skill indicator. It forges bonds, demolishes communication barriers, is the quickest ice breaker and is a sure shot way of improving ones’ positive self worth. Janet Holmes (1988, 1995) qualifies it such, ‘A compliment is a speech act which explicitly or implicitly attributes credit to someone other than the speaker, usually the person addressed, for some ‘good’ (possession, characteristic, skill etc.) which is positively valued by the speaker and the hearer.’ A definite win-win for both the speaker and the listener. JCB Prize 2018 Shortlist – Year’s Best of Indian Writing

Five greatest novels of 2018 demonstrate the universal ambition of contemporary Indian fiction The JCB Prize for Literature’s inaugural shortlist of five distinguished novels by Indian writers was announced today. Varied in their themes and settings, the novels nonetheless share an ambition: to reveal as-yet-undiscovered worlds through powerfully drawn scenes and characters. Launched earlier this year, the JCB Prize for Literature was open for entries until May 31st2018. On September 5th, after months of reading and evaluation, the jury announced a long list of ten novels. Sassy Millennial Slangs, Is this the way to communicate?

Language as I type, you read and we speak- is changing! A work in progress, it sure is, metamorphosing, into something, you and I may not be so familiar with. Here we are talking about ‘millennial speak’.
